WHAT WE DO

1 - Impact Assessments

With state of the art survey equipment and over 7 years of field experience, our team is ready to take on any study that is required for your project.

Environmental Impact Assessment

Our team consists of registered EIA Consultants with a background in sustainable engineering solutions – the strength that you need when designing projects in a country that is mostly ocean and reef. We deliver thorough, quality, and timely reports according to the EIA regulations of the Maldives. We wear all the hats that you need - engineering, economic and environmental –to provide total solutions for your planned project. EIAs are carried out after the initial concept design and before the detailed design stage.

Socio-Economic Impact Assessment

Socio-Economic Impact Assessments differ from Environmental Impact Assessments in that it uses an economic lens to analyse the objectives and potential impacts of a project, whereas EIAs use a scientific approach. Depending on the availability of data and the nature of the study, we can do both qualitative and quantitative analysis for various stages of the project. This is an especially useful tool at the beginning of a project to compare the expected consequences on society, mitigation options and alternatives.

Biodiversity Assessment

Biodiversity is the crucial connecting net for all species and processes on earth. Biodiversity assessments can help you identify and monitor the ecological and evolutionary processes, species abundance and diversity, and ecosystem services. This information is necessary for sustainable development practices, for improving the outcome of your project such as agricultural production, and for conservation. Depending on the goal of your project, we can provide biodiversity inventorying, impact assessments and long term monitoring services.

Marine Structural Assessment

Marine and coastal development is our strong suit, and our engineering team has certified scuba divers and freedivers. When combined with coastal development and modeling expertise, we can provide you with a full picture of your development from the ocean surface to its depths. When your engineer can dive for assessment instead of relying on a secondary source, you may rest assured that we can provide you a quality assessment. Ensuring the safety of your structure in a marine environment requires careful monitoring and confident decision making – and can be done at any phase of the project as well as a long term monitoring project.

2 - Surveying

With Registered Surveyors being part of our team as associate members, and inhouse surveying equipment and software, our services can be used for land use planning, major infrastructure projects and more. We use a combination of surveying methods for complex projects – such as using aerial drone mapping and bathymetric mapping for harbour studies to understand the dynamic nature of the shoreline as well as the existing underwater conditions. Depending on your project, we will devise a combination of the surveying methods for an optimal solution.

Land Surveying

Aerial photogrammetry survey by drone, Topographic survey, Georeferencing, Geographical Information System (GIS) Products, 3D Modeling

Marine Surveying

Bathymetric surveys using echo sounders for underwater mapping, Fish survey, Reef monitoring and survey, Modeling coastal processes.

3 - Investigations

During project implementation it is likely that pollutants enter both indoor and outdoor environments. Sometimes these can be apparent such as noise pollution issues, but more often pollutants are invisible and require investigations and proper monitoring of levels and dispersion. We provide investigation services for both indoor and outdoor environments and can tailor investigations to the nature of the project

Air Quality Investigations

Visual inspections, interviews, sampling analysis, investigating material emission, Advising on operation of and ventilation of buildings for optimum air quality internally and externally, Internal Air Quality Investigations in public and commercial buildings to identify concentration of pollutants and thermal conditions, External Air Quality Investigations to disperse pollutants due to a project, monitoring air pollutants and dust control.

Acoustic Investigations

Sound insulation performance monitoring, Noise impact of operations, Noise monitoring

4 - Maintenance, Rehabilitation and Monitoring

Restoration efforts in the Maldives will require permits and they may be required from multiple agencies under relevant ministries. Such projects are likely to be long-term solutions with true results showing in the long run. It is important to view some of the following services not simply as a one-time solution, but rather an ongoing monitoring and maintenance project.

Beach Nourishment and Monitoring Consultancy

Beach Nourishment is concerned with moving sediment such as sand from a preapproved location to an eroding beach. Before engaging in such measures, it is important to undergo detailed surveying and consider our expert recommendation on whether beach nourishment is the optimal long-term solution for the island. When a client wishes to move forward, we can provide consultancy on the how and where to ensure that results are as long lasting as possible, while still providing a safe coastal environment for ecological processes. Although it can be done as a one-off measure, it will likely not be effective that way and we recommend pairing beach nourishment services with a long-term monitoring consultancy.

Beach Rehabilitation and Monitoring Consultancy

We initially determine the causes of deterioration of the habitat and create a multifaceted approach to beach rehabilitation. Restoration and rehabilitation will usually involve reestablishing the natural coastal processes on a beach such as current and sediment flow. These are usually impeded by coastal developments which may not have been designed to incorporate sediment flow features. This may be done with a combination of beach nourishment, using plants, removing certain structures, bypassing structures, or redesigning existing structures.

Mangrove Rehabilitation and Monitoring Consultancy

Mangrove rehabilitation can include reintroducing some mangrove species and planting, as well as mapping and determining vegetation boundaries. Coastal mangroves can also be impacted by structural developments along the coast. A successfully rehabilitated mangrove area will be fairly able to maintain itself if there is no further human intervention in the area. After restoration, it will be important to continue scheduled monitoring of certain biotic and abiotic factors to ensure that projects are not impacting the mangrove areas.

Reef Rehabilitation and Monitoring Consultancy

Our reefs are the first line of defense for our islands. Ensuring reef health and long term monitoring will provide value ecologically and economically. Our services include but are nor limited to: - Growing and planting healthy corals - Removing invasive species - Monitoring conditions necessary for healthy coral growth - Education and awareness
